The right to bare breasts
You’ve heard of the right to bear arms, now Americans are protesting for the right to bare breasts.
Dozens of half-naked women (and men) took to the streets of New York, North Carolina and California and others to celebrate National Go Topless Day.
They were protesting for the right to legally go bare-chested in public - just like men can and do.
Some men wore bikini tops and bras to highlight the double-standards that allows them to be bare-chested in public.
Protesters carried signs reading ‘Men and women have nipples. Why should women hide theirs?’
Now, that's democracy in action. Hear! Hear!
One of the organisers, Nadine Gary, said that while it is legal for women to go topless in many American states, those who do get arrested for disturbing the peace.
For the protest, in certain states where going topless is banned, women covered their nipples up with fake latex versions, red tape and plaster.
More protests will be repeated in Canada, next weekend as many feel the need to get it off their chests.
The event is in its fourth year, and is organised by a website GoTopless.org.
